LongLife Index evaluation method.

The LongLife Index is a measure of the performance and durability of anti-reflective lens coatings. This evaluation method is made up of five tests that are more rigorous than the industry standards, to provide eye care professionals and patients with the HOYA quality guarantee for long-lasting anti-reflective coatings.


The LongLife Index was developed and adopted by HOYA as a working standard. Passing the rigorous and severe tests gives us the confidence that the coating is of the highest quality and is able to endure extreme conditions and various lifestyles.

Droplet test - ease to clean and water resistance

The lenses are wiped with paper up to 10,000 times, then water droplets are used to measure how much hydrophobic coating remains.

 

Sandpit test (HOYA Bayer value) - resistance to abrasion

The lenses are placed in a ‘sandpit’ full of gravel and are shaken vigorously 800 times

 

Steel wool test - resistance to harsh scratches

Weighted carbon steel wool is brushed from side to side across the lens surface.

 

Oven test - heat resistance

Lenses are tested for resistance to temperatures over 95°c in a laboratory-graded oven

 

Extreme weather test - resistance to weathering

The lenses are exposed to cycles of ultraviolet light and moisture at elevated temperatures - just like the harsh equatorial climate.

Advanced multi-layer technology for the most balanced bundle of protective lens features

Combining multiple layers to produce exceptional resistance and protection for the lens, this coating has been developed to provide clarity that lasts.

Anti-reflective

This lens coating reduces reflections for exceptional clarity of vision and an elegant look. It offers relaxed vision and improved visual comfort1.

Due to its easy to clean properties, grease or dirt are easily wiped off the lens. Even after long term use and repeated cleaning.
